Commitment to Safety
Triton is committed to providing a safe working environment for all of its employees and has established and maintains an Occupational Health and Safety Program (OHSP) to fulfil this commitment. Through implementation of the OHSP, Triton commits to meet or exceed the safety regulations and procedures required by law and to take all reasonable steps to ensure that no person is injured or property damaged or lost due to the performance of any work they perform.
Triton’s OHSP is managed by the Safety Coordinator, who works out of the Richmond office with safety representatives in the Terrace, Prince George and Kamloops offices. The cornerstones of the OHSP are Triton’s Safety Policy and Procedures Manual, Safety Committee, program documentation, employee training and program review.
Triton’s Safety Policy and Procedures Manual provides all staff with clear direction on the legislative and corporate safety standards that apply to all aspects of their work. A separate field safety manual details safety procedures for specific field activities such as electrofishing, boat and helicopter operations, swiftwater operations and wildlife interactions. Copies of the manuals are available to clients upon request. The Safety Committee meets quarterly to review legislative and corporate policy changes and update the OHSP accordingly.
Triton’s OHSP is audited annually to ensure procedures are being implemented efficiently and to identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Triton maintains current Level 1 First Aid and WHMIS certification for employees undertaking field work. Other training may also be required depending on project-specific activities, such as Swiftwater Rescue, Ice Rescue, Transportation of Dangerous Goods and ATV and chainsaw operation.
Triton is currently in the process of becoming a SAFE Certified company under the BC Forest Safety Council.
